Aarushi-Hemraj double murder: Likely killers and the motivational theory

The Murder: This is a simple case of sexual perversion, maybe incest, and pedophilia that got integrated with a culture of swinging between families and swapping. Matter of family honour thus comes first and foremost.

Read on…

We all know about what happened. However, for the benefit of those who just returned from a trip to Mars, here it is:

Episode I

The Story – On May 16, 2008, Aarushi Talwar, 14, daughter of Dr. Rajesh and Dr. (Mrs.) Nupur Talwar, renowned dentists with clientele comprising the rich, powerful and famous, was found murdered in her room with blood all over the place. Her body was said to be discovered around 6:30 am in the morning by her parents. The police started suspecting their domestic help Hemraj, who went missing since then. Police launch a manhunt for Hemraj, and two days later, they arrest his dead body right on the terrace of the house where the girl was murdered. He too was killed with a sharp-edged weapon.

Baffled and not knowing what to do the Noida Police, under severe pressure, deduced that if only four people were in the house that was locked from inside as a fortress with many gates and locks, and out of them two are found murdered inside then the murderer must be one or both of the remaining two. Noida Police now had the math and the usual suspects. All they needed was a motivational theory that could enrage one or both the parents of such an adorable little girl to kill their only child.

With media and public mounting pressure, the Uttar Pradesh Police (Noida comes under Uttar Pradesh) formed a Special Task Force and within hours arrest Aarushi’s father Dr. Rajesh Talwar. They call a press conference next day and the theory they present is equally dramatic.

The UP Police theory – Aarushi was killed because she resented Dr. Rajesh Talwar’s clandestine affair with his business partner Dr. Anita Durrani. She didn’t like it and her father found it increasingly difficult to her daughter’s resentment. The daughter used to discuss her father’s illicit affair with her only friend, the servant Hemraj. These discussions brought Hemraj, 45, and Aarushi, 14, emotionally closer and they also developed an affair. This enraged Dr. Talwar even more. On the day of the murder, the doctor saw his young daughter in an ‘objectionable’ but not compromising position with the lowly servant, so called the servant up on the terrace, stabbed him to death and then proceeded to kill Aarushi who was (naturally) a witness to the murder. Then he drank some whisky, destroyed evidence, made some cock and bull story, called a few close relatives and friends up and finally called the police. One more thing; he killed Aarushi and Hemraj despite his own character was loose. And they also went on to say that only a doctor or a butcher can kill someone with such precision.

Also, since the wife – Dr. Nupur Talwar – was sleeping with a noisy air conditioner on, she couldn’t know that her husband was carrying out not one, but two murders. So the Uttar Pradesh Police gives her a clean chit.

Aftermath of this botched press conference and failure to present proof or evidence to substantiate its theory – Huge public outcry nationwide with NGOs, women rights organizations, and human rights commission joining in vilifying the UP Police of character assassination of the accused and the murdered alike. With Aarushi being a minor, such allegations in front of the public without any proof could also invite libel against the UP Police, and already some were exploring the possibility. The Police remand of Dr. Talwar also expired and the political leadership of UP sought the help of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the Union Government.

The request is granted and CBI accepts to take up the case and the sword falls on entire top brass of the fallen-from-grace UP Police investigating the case. The Noida Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut Deputy Inspector General along with the Zonal Range Inspector General transferred from their posts.

Episode II

Enter the CBI – CBI team headed by Joint Director Arun Kumar, a much respected officer, raid the Talwar house, grills Aarushi’s mother, Dr. Rajesh Talwar’s alleged paramour Dr. Anita Durrani, and all those who were close to the Talwar family. They dig up sewers and gutters. Then comes the big surprise. Dr. Talwar’s compounder Krishna alias Kisen emerges as another suspect. The CBI actually kept Krishna under illegal detention for over three weeks where he was subjected to severe interrogation, sci-fi tests such as brain mapping and narco-analysis. The CBI then finally formally arrests Krishna under Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (Murder), 120B (Party to a criminal conspiracy punishable with death, or life imprisonment, or rigorous imprisonment for a term of two years or upwards) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender). The CBI did take the pains that his main offense was destroying evidence and being a party to a crime and not the main culprit or the conspirator. However, he had to be booked under 302 because the initial case had been filed under that section only – murder.

The reasons that the CBI gave for their suspicion towards Krishna was that they found his footsteps climbing up the staircase and not coming down. Besides, he bolted the terrace door where Hemraj’s body was found from inside and threw blood-stained clothes and other things, and they believe that he must have jumped off the terrace to the neighbouring terrace and made is way out. They are also investigating why on May 14th, one day before the murders took place, he called up the cyber crime division of CBI and how on earth he got that number.

The CBI got a 3-day remand of Krishna and they are likely to file the formal chargesheet when they present him on the court on Monday. Arun Kumar’s team in the meantime subjects Nupur Talwar to a polygraph test and takes into custody Anita Durani’s servant.

That’s the moment
the whole nation is waiting for. To get the full story, and the CBI theory. However, for that, we will have to wait till Monday.

This is the reason why I have decided to sit back and write about what could have really happened. The complete story as I think and believe is behind the heinous murders, including a compelling motivation that drove a highly educated and well-respected parent to kill his beautiful daughter was going to turn 15 in a few days time.

MY THEORY:

Risking libel I hazard a deduction, that appears plain and simple to me.

a) It appears that Dr. Talwar, with the knowledge of his wife, had an incestuous relationship with Aarushi.
b) Sexual acts with her was perhaps broadcasted/videos shared with other pedophiles/sexual perverts around the world.
c) Since little girls are not very comfortable with such things, Aarushi might have confined this to Raju, their ex-servant, before. He disappeared mysteriously only to be found dead in a drain a few days later.
d) Aarsuhi might have been the love child of Dr. Nupur Talwar.
e) Motivation for killing her could have been Aarushi being in emotional and subsequently being in a physical relationship with Hemraj who comforted her taking advantage of the young age of the girl. And that she was increasingly in danger of spilling to the outside world as to what was happening in her household was the nail in her coffin. Maybe, her growing older and continued defiance was the reason why she was killed with her supporter Hemraj who was like a father figure.
f) Noida/UP Police theory is most certainly right when they pointed a finger to the ‘kind of relationship’ Hemraj and Aarushi, a fortress bound teenager much abused by her father and privy to the swinging acts between her parents and a ‘other families’.

Not for nothing Aarushi’s mother is silent and still protecting her husband ‘despite knowing everything’. We can’t believe her not hearing/knowing anything, right? Must too fantastic.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Krishna was coerced into killing Hemraj (and subsequently Aarushi who was growing fast into a matured teen) because he got to know what was happening in the Talwar household.

Why would the servant of the Durrani household be arrested? By the way, the UP Police did claim (and there is a lot of weight in the theory) that Dr. Anita Durrani and Dr. Rajesh Talwar did have a relationship.

I would rather commend the UP Police that it tried its best to shield the family honour of the Talwar family females – Nupur and Aarushi alike.

The call by Krishna to the CBI Cyber Cell does indicate that an act of child pornography was being relayed through it. A call to Netherlands, the Mecca of snuff and illegal porn industry substantiates the cause. Who knows there might be a billionaire client sitting there who wanted to access to the abuse and killing of a young girl. We hope this is solved and the truth be known.

But the law must take its course for that.

Completely agree. My own thoughts actually. If at all there is an Aarushi pedophilia/snuff video out there it will come out.

@Gaurav

After reading through your story, I think the headline of the story should be ”Owner killing rather than Honor killing.

What an assumption man!! You are really a shrewd man, as only a man who is prying- eyed, can circulate his mind to think of actions behind the curtain.

”Character is what when you are in dark” And the real character of doctor Talwar might have been untangled by u.

On second thoughts this is a completely outlandish theory. Nonsense. Let’s wait till Monday to hear what the CBI version of the story is.

I agree with this one.

What rubbish Gaurav!
this is highly imaginative thing which u have written!!
One side u r suggesting an incest between father and daughter and at the same time u r also indicating an affair between Anita durrani and Dr.Talwar.And Nupur and Mr. Durrani being mute spectator to all this.
Is it possible. And Arushi , a 14 yr old girl, if at all going through this kind of trauma, would’nt have shared with any of her friends or even Dr, Durrani’s daughter, who was a close friend of hers.
Arushi was a student of DPS, who always has a clinical psychologist to solve childrens’ problems resulting from harmonal changes at thia stage.

What you want to say is that though Arushi was being subjected to sexual abuse by her father, she again got into sumthing of that sort with Hemraaj too(now that she must be well aware of all the sexual activities).
Nupur does’nt appear to be a fool and Talwars have relatives too, so even they kept quiet inspite of knowing all the gory details.Isnt it? what story!!
Cut the crap Gaurav!
you r just making the things too complicated by your Sherlock Holmes type of investigation.
Wait for the CBI discosure about Krishna’s role and Talwar’s details.Till then at least we can stop mud-slinging.

The tale is a dark one, and if the murky affairs of the Talwar’s are what is being speculated here, then there is a sordid crime that the CBI has to uncover.

The premier investigating agency has taken more time than what one would have expected on this.

Some loose ends still need to be stitched up before they can spill it all.

I think its really disgusting whatever is being unearthed and speculated about without the actual truth being told...as it is ,its a disgrace to see the media channels going absoltuley mindless and insensitive with character assassinations being made about a teenager who is not even alive to defend herself...its so demeaning to see the media upsurping sordid stories just to be one up on the other..yes...its a nation where everyone has a right to opinion and freedom of speech...but lets not be so insensitive by making a sensitve issue a sordid saga for everyone to preen about!

Is the result out yet? I mean its Monday, and today the CBI was supposed to file its recommendations for the various Awards.

It will be great to see who gets the award for orchestrating the heinous murders and who all are crowned with the award for supporting role.

But on second thoughts, lets pray that CBI shows honesty in this case because if the CBI decides to take the path of Filmfare Award selection committee, it might come up with the same biased view and end up awarding the wrong person!!

Meanwhile, I agree with Neetha to a certain extent; I don’t find the last sentence of her comment valid enough.

As for Gaurav’s article, its a well-written piece of art with all the necessary ingredients that a story ought to include in it to become popular. Perfect NDTVish stuff.

Well, the character assassinations in the case were just waiting for this one. Great work. You fisnihed it, buddy.
Nobody around Aarushi had anything worth being called ’character’ or ’integrity’. Mass voyeurism, this is.

Hi Aneez,

I just feel this whole issue has been made out to be some kind of soap opera people get hooked to whether it makes sense or not...too much of character assassination going on which is disgusting to watch or read...

Horrible!!!
At least show some respect for the dead. The truth will come out after investigation. Why make such assumptions and why make it public even if you make?
Incest and then web circulation! Did you see it in some porn site?

This must be the most ’googled’ search topic these days! Heights of imagination is what we see when read about the theories going round. The CBI should in fact start looking at blogs for clues and ideas and this could make their job easier!

Pls read the first line of the article...”This is a simple case of sexual perversion, maybe incest, and pedophilia that got integrated with a culture of swinging between families and swapping”. Can you tell me what is left? The verdict has not yet been declared and you have experts giving their cock and bull stories that is no less than a 2nd grade Bollywood movie plot. It’s, as if, peolple are deriving voyeauristic pleasure by making all kinds of asumptions about an apparently respectable and cultured family. Think about the poor girl atleast...even after death she is not left alone!

Actually, Aarushi came to life the day she died. Ever since that day, she has been the most celebrated cause.
And with this little piece of conspiracy theory, the story is complete. Everyone that had anything to do with Aarushi was the son of devil. She was born in hell. Is there any other way of looking at it.
Father, mother, servant...who is left?

This whole issue has been given a cheap and scandalous outlook... Poor girl.. she had full right to live and share her dreams with the world... the investigations are not out yet.. we better stay away from speculations!!! Instead of getting into obnoxious comments lets just pray for a justified verdict and the guilty gets his due!!

Don’t be so hard on the guy. He’s just trying to be helpful. The fellow has great imagination, howsoever dark. Let’s appreciate that.
1 Stars
Well he certainly has a great imagination. But it should be kept at fictional level. He can try hands on story writing with a disclaimer ”any resemblance to any person dead or living is purely coincidental”.

Wow...i never thought of the entire issue this way!

Also think how wrong could it all be? This is not a thought or an angle or a way of looking at it. It is simply imagination at its worst. Aarushi’s case appears to be a blanket thrown over Mr. Gaurav’s imaginative prowess. And when I say that I am exercising a tremendous amount of self-restraint.

Dear Gaurav ,

Instead of beating the bush ,let us wait for the truth .It would soon surface as every crime leaves some clues .Anyway , why the nation is after this case ? In our country , such cruel turn of events have become part and parcel of our lives . In fact , the whole thing should revolve not around the motive but should be centred on the dulness of cops .Why can they never learn to handle such episodes in intelligent way ?

Gaurav:

You may hell be right! I heard on the TV today that the CBI was probing spouse swapping in this case that is taking a new bizarre turn every day. The Durrani couple's blood samples were also taken. Do you have some source inside the CBI?
